02. Biserica Sfânta Treime Ghencea

Sfânta Treime Ghencea Church
1927 Calea 13 Septembrie 211

The plans of this church are signed by architect Virginia ANDREESCU HARET and her colleague, architect Jean POMPILIAN (1872-1938), and it’s construction period span from 1927 untill 1934.
Built with a mixt masonry and reinforced concrete structure, the church is defined by the volume and facades imagined within the lines of an elegant and slender late Neoromanian style. The destinations of the inner spaces are easily recognised within the exterior volume: the tall exonarthex, marked by two small steeples; the narthex with its buttresses that assume the load generated by the concrete vault; the nave with the Pantocrator Dome and Steeple and the choir apses; the smaller volume of the sanctuary with the prothesis and the diaconicon. The use of the Golden Ratio for the dimensioning of facade bays, windows, blind niches and for the Pantocrator Steeple, introduce the human dimension next to the divine dimension of the building.
